The Journey to Bethlehem unit uses the Bible story included in Luke 2:1-21 and Micah 5:2-5a. People in Bible times waited with anticipation for the coming of the Savior. During Advent, we wait and prepare to celebrate the birth of the promised Savior, Jesus. The coming of Jesus is the gift of Christmas, something we can remember and celebrate all year.
Children will explore these concepts:
- Prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
- Hear Old Testament prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah.
- Hear as Christians, we believe Jesus is Messiah.
- Recognize Advent as the name of a special time in the church year.
- Hear as Christians, we recognize Jesus as God's greatest gift to all people.
- Be able to locate the account of Jesus' birth in Luke.
- Hear and be able to tell the biblical story of Jesus' birth.
- Discover what it means to say God is with us.
