This unit examines the lives of people who were touched by Jesus and how he changed their lives. In the story of The Wise Men children are asked to examine the role that "joy" plays in their lives and what it means to be "overwhelmed with joy". The story of Jesus' baptism tells of John the Baptist and helps children recognize what it feels like to "belong". In the story of Mary and Martha children come to realize that Jesus welcomed women as learners - even though the prevailing culture of the day taught that only boys and men could learn and teach. In the stories of Zacchaeus and the Woman at the Well the children discover what happens when people who have been treated as outcasts are touched with the love of Jesus. Because so many of the stories in this unit have to do with water, the Mission Activity is one of providing clean water to those who need it.
