On the lovely, spring afternoon of April 20, 2018, a backyard tree cracked and a heavy limb fell. The author's 12-year-old daughter, Evelyn, suffered a devastating blow to her head as she shielded her puppy, instantly setting in motion an unbelievable experience that may take a lifetime to fully understand. This freak, life-threatening event shook the family to the core, and life was at that moment marked by a "before" and after." A significant, compressed skull fracture required emergency neurosurgery. Evelyn suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, among other wounds and complications.
The astounding details surrounding the accident, cast of characters present, Evelyn's emergency medical care, and her ensuing recovery, are crazier than fiction. One simply can't design fabric of so intricate a weave, unless one is the Lord God himself. By the grace of God, the kind, lovely, witty, intelligent, faith-filled, strong, amazing, dynamo Evelyn, remains all things bright and beautiful.
Her story is one of relatives, dear friends, and an entire community rallying to support the family through a tremendous wave of fervent, domino-effect prayer. It is a story of devoted friendship and great love, of faith in action during our time of crisis, pain, uncertainty, and darkness. Evelyn's tale must be told -- to inspire others about the goodness of God at all times because central to her accident and recovery story resides a message of faith, hope, love, and encouragement to trust Him.
